Q: Hello....My daughter has a lot of beanies along with the other hoards of collectors, but she originally bought the beanies with her babysitting money because they were cute and affordable.
I had no idea they were collector's items. Her first purchase was Velvet and she immediately
cut off the ear tag and tush tag. My question: is it sale-able? Also where does one get a reliable
price list of beanies that are retired? Please email answer as well as post.
Thanks so much

A: Velvet is a wonderful addition to any collection, but without the tags, it is usually not worth anything to a collector. To get an idea of the market value of Beanies, you can go to www.ebay.com, and do a search. You will see what the items have sold for recently. There is also a new book put out by BangZoom called Ty Beanies Tracker. It is available at most bookstores, online at the Ty site at www.ty.com in the Ty Store, and from many retailers who sell beanies.

I think your daughter should just enjoy the beautiful sleek beanie!

Q: I am new to Your web site, but I love it already. Great info.

My question is about having Beanies with common oddity's 'authenticated'?
or not?

I have a few Iggy's w/ rainbow tags and vice versa, I also have a Hoot
with the poem oddity & Squealer with the poem oddity. I was told that
it it really wasn't worth having them done. They are all in mint to near
mint condition with early gen. tags on them.
I would like to know Your opinion.

A: Ty has made so many mistakes with Beanies, that oddities usually
aren't any more valuable than those without mistakes, and sometimes are
less in demand.

Actually it depends on the generation of the tags. Beanies with 1st, 2nd, or
3rd generation tags are more valuable..with or without mistakes.
The Iggys and Rainbows came in about five different versions and are not
much more valuable because of all the different versions. The same is true
of Echo and Waves with reversed tags.

There are, however, some collectors who collect oddities, and perhaps these
beanies with mistakes would be valuable to them. Otherwise, just enjoy having
something special in your own collection!

Q: How can I be sure that the authentic beanie I send to someone
is the same one that person returns when a transaction is reversed?
What if the other trader says I shipped a counterfeit when I know I
didn't?

A: Here is a tip for assuring that your authentic beanie is the one
that is returned to you:
Before shipping your item, put a piece of string through the tush
tag and fasten both ends of the string with a folded over return
address label stuck to itself and the ends of the string. This can be
reinforced with clear tape. Tell those you are trading with that you
guarantee all your items to be authentic and will be happy to reverse
the transaction as long as the string and label are intact.

Q: Can you please tell me what a "Pastel Peace" is?

A: The "Pastel Peace" Beanie Baby appears to have been
accidently produced using a lighter tie-dyed fabric. The number
inside of the red circle inside the tush tag is #102. The beanie has no
dark colors..no olives, browns or bright oranges that are common
with the bright colored Peace bears. To make this even more
confusing, the factory #102 also produced bright Peace bears,
so although every true Pastel Peace has #102 inside the circle,
not every Peace with #102 inside the circle is pastel! And not
every Peace bear with no bright colors is a true Pastel Peace...it
must have #102 inside the tush tag.

Q: I have seen pictures of Wingless Quackers Buddies.
Do you know anything about this?

A: Yes, I was fortunate enough to find mine at a local Ty retailer.
No one knows why these were released.  It could be that Ty let a
few of them slip out with the July,1999 orders to keep the market
interesting, or it could be that it was unintentional, and that is why
Quackers Buddy was retired. They have shown up in at least six
states that I am aware of.

Q: I have a Dotty with Sparky's hang tag. How much is it worth?
Is it Dotty's price or Sparky's price? Is it Sparky or Dotty. Is
there a difference between Sparky and Dotty?

A: If the ears and tail are black, it is Dotty...Sparky had white ears
and tail. The Dotty with the Sparky hang tag was a common mistake
during the transition from Sparky to Dotty. Dotty is only worth about
$10, and Sparky is worth about $110-$125, but that is with correct
tags. Some collectors look for mis-tagged beanies, so if you want to
sell or trade it,  and the ears and tail are white, you can advertise it as
a mistagged Sparky.

Q: I have two beanies with that came without tags. Is it
possible to get tags for these beanies?

A: Unfortunately Ty does not make or distribute extra tags
for beanies. You may want to post a query on the Ty guestbook
and see if someone who has removed the tags and saved them
would be willing to part with them.

Q: I have been looking for the BBOC Gold charter Membership
Kit and cannot find one can you tell me what stores in the Daytona
Beach (Volusia County, FL) or Seminole County, FL I can find one?

A: I'm sorry, but we don't have a list of Ty retailers. Most shops
that sell beanies also sell the membership kits, however the first kit
is now retired, and many stores may have already sold out. You may
be able to find one on the internet if you post an ad on the Ty
Board of Trade.

Q: This question is concerning 1998 Holiday Teddy. Can you tell
me which ear Holiday Teddy's hat belongs on? I have viewed the
picture on the TY Website and the hat is on the left ear, but the Teddy
I have, has the hat on the right ear with the hang tag in the left ear.

A: The picture on the website appears to be a mirror image. All the
98 Teddys I have seen have the hat over Teddy's right ear with the tag
in the left ear.  Also, the star on the tush tag of the 98 Teddy is a little
larger than any other beanie's star that I have compared it to, and the
TM is a little further off to the side compared to other beanies.

Many websites have copied this mirror image onto their site, but Mary
Beth's Beanie World Magazine has the hat over Teddy's right ear.

Q: Today I was looking at my beanies when I discovered that my
Tuffy's hang tag had a sticker on the back saying "Surface Wash"
instead of being printed right on the tag. Please let me know if this
is a counterfeit or not as soon as possible.

A: No, your Tuffy isn't counterfeit. Ty misprinted many of the tags
...under the sticker it says "sufrace wash", so they corrected the
spelling with a sticker. If you look closely at the swing tag, on the
front, it probably has "original" spelled with two "i's" after the "g".
This is a very common mistake with lots of the beanies and it doesn't
change the value. Do not try to remove the sticker as it will leave
a residue.

Q: I just started to collect Beanie Buddies. How can I tell the
difference between 1st generation, 2nd generation, and 3rd
generation Buddies?

A: The difference between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation Buddies
is very evident in the tush tag.  The 1st generation Beanie Buddies
have the red ty heart with the word "ty" in white, and a black
registration R in the lower right under the heart.  The printing on the
back of the tush tag is in BLACK.  The tush tag of the 2nd generation
Buddies has the red heart with the white "ty" inside and above it are
the words "The Beanie Buddies Collection" with a red R. The back
of the tush tag is printed in RED.  The the 3rd generation tush tag is
similar to the 2nd generation tush tag with the addional words
"Shell 100% Tylon" on the bottom of the tag.

Q: I would like to start selling shirts with pictures of Beanies on them.
Is this legal?

A:  It is illegal to use Ty's copyrighted images, names, or logo on
anything you produce and sell..such as sweatshirts, pencils, games, etc.,
without permission from Ty. Ty's attorneys are taking action against
those who are infringing on Ty's rights.

Q: I received an e-mail with an attachment called Happy99.exe. I have
heard that this  attached file contains a worm virus that will infect my computer.
Is this true? Can I get the virus by opening the e-mail?

A: To answer the first question...yes, the attached file called Happy99.exe does contain a virus and can infect your computer. The answer to your second question is "No", you will not get the virus by just opening the e-mail.
You can ONLY get it by downloading and executing the attachment. This file may have different names, and may even come from a friend who doesn't know that he/she is infected and is passing the virus on through e-mail.
There is more information about this virus at:
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Heights/3652/SKA.HTM.
To stop the spread of the virus, be very cautious when opening attachments.
It would be safer to ask the sender to copy the attachment information
and send it in the body of the email. If you receive the Happy99.exe file
as an attachment to an e-mail, please write to the sender to let him/her
know that he/she may have the virus.

Q: Could you please describe what MINT means?

A:  A MINT beanie (or any toy for that matter) is one that has never
been played with. It is in perfect..fresh from the store..condition. It is smoke-free, dirt-free and stain-free. MINT does not mean that you washed it after the dog played with it, or after you dug it out of the toybox. MINT tags are tags that are perfect. The color has not faded, there are no tears or wear caused by the tag attacher or tag protector. There are NO creases. If "spidervein" creases are visible from one side but not from the other, that should be mentioned when the toy is advertised. If the tag once had a price sticker which was removed, this should be mentioned as well, (although this doesn't necessarily affect the value if the tag hasn't been damaged by the removal of the sticker
and as long as there isn't any sticker residue). Sometimes
a tag attacher will leave a dent in the tag..this does not affect the value, but should be mentioned as a courtesy in case the buyer is very particular. When a toy is purchased with a price sticker, it is better to leave the sticker on and advertise it as such. The tush tag may have bends, but should not be all wrinkled and faded, and should have no writing or stains on it.
