My name is Martha and I am looking for help on a transaction I made with
a possible bad trader named Don DeSorbo on a MWMT Libearty. I received an
email from this person on February 17th stating he was having a great sale
on beanies. It stated that he got my email from an extractor he uses to pool
emails. (I had been bidding on Libearty on e-Bay.) He had Libearty listed
for sale for $210. I emailed him asking if he still had it for sale and he
told me yes he did and how did I want to order. To make a long story short,
I mailed a Postal money order to him on March 8, 1999. I know now how stupid
and naive I was to do this. I sent him several emails asking if he had received
my money order. I did not get a response from him until March 22nd when he
sent me an email saying he had sent it out via UPS on Friday, March 19th.
I emailed him back asking for the tracking number since I have a PO BOX.
I did have one person ship to me via UPS even though they are not suppose
to take packages for PO BOXES. I was able to track the package down with
the tracking number.. it was delivered to my old address and I finally located
it. I kept emailing asking for the tracking number with no response until
I emailed him on March 29th stating if he didnt contact me I would be posting
about this transaction on the trade boards and contacting the bad trader
list on April 2nd. He sent me an email response on March 30th saying he had
been out of town for several days and would check on my order. He did not
send me a tracking number and has not answered my emails since then. I have
tried calling him at the number he sent me and it is an answering machine
for people to leave their credit card information! I have called the other
number I found listed for him in the Excite directory but no one has answered.
I mailed a Postal Money Order on March 8, 1999 to Don DeSorbo 228 S. Ellis
Street Salisbury, NC 28144. The phone number he gave me is(704) 642-1891.
The other number listed for the same person at this address is (704) 636-7173...
I emailed him tonight telling him I had contacted the traderlist and will
be filing Mail Fraud charges, and Internet Fraud Complaint and contacting
the local police in his home town. I will check my Libearty very carefully
if I do receive it.

I have been out o town for the last 2 weeks and look into this right away!!

Update from: Treater01@aol.com
He emailed me today saying my Libearty will go in the mail tomorrow,
but, he has told me this before. Maybe now he will follow through on his
promise.
April 16 , 1999
Update from: Treater01@aol.com
I received a beanie today from Mr. DeSorbo. The left leg is unattached
in the front, the material is rough, the tush tag is slightly wider than
my other beanies, the writing on the tag is not centered and has a slightly
different font on the front. This is obviously not a MWMT Libearty like he
stated. I am once again disappointed by Mr. DeSorbo and wanted to let you
know so you can warn others about buying from him. I am going to e-mail him
and request he refund my money. I will let you know what his response is.
Thank you for your offer to act as a go between for me and Mr. DeSorbo. I
think it is a good idea and I would like to do this if he is willing. That
way you will also see for yourself the beanie I received. The fabric on the
face is really awful! When you rub it against the nap it just stands up.
I am new to beanie collecting, but, I have more than 180 of them and none
of them feel like this one does. I will let you know what his response is.
I am sending him a copy of this email to you so he will know he will be put
on the bad trader list if he doesn't refund my money.
April 30, 1999
Update from: Treater01@aol.com
It has now been two weeks since Mr. DeSorbo promised to refund my money
for the fake Libearty and no check. I would like to see him listed on the
bad trader list so at least maybe I can keep others from being taken by this
man.

Response to cautionlist from: sharpei.2@worldnet.att.net
Her refund was sent on 4/29/99
May 2, 1999
Update from: Treater01@aol.com
this is the third time he has said he sent the money and I am still waiting.
it was the same with shipping the beanie. he told me over and over that he
had shipped it. it was not until he was contacted by you that he did anything!
I definitely think this man belongs on the bad trader list. I wonder how
many people out there he has ripped off. I filed a report on him with the
BBB and internet fraud. I think people should be warned to watch out for
him. Did I forward you his email where he told me to "hold still"? I am still
seething over that.
May 3, 1999
Update from: Treater01@aol.com
no refund today. I will let you know if I get it or not tomorrow. I am
not expecting it after all the lies he has told before though. He definitely
belongs on the bad trader list.

Message Board Complaint posted by: liesa@nwi.net
comments: I wa high bidder on an auction for 12 Peace bears on April 7,
1998. I promptly mailed my money order for $563. I never recieved my beanies.
I have filed several complaints against him. He finally in October answered
my email. He agreed to compensate me with other beanies. Three weeks later
I did recieve some beanies, with very bent tags. I immediately contacted
him and said they were not acceptable. He promised to replace them. He has
NOT done so and has not answered my email for 5 weeks. He also uses email
addresses of sharpei.2@worldnet.att.net and BeanieBA@@aol.com. Don Desorbo
lives in Salisbury, NC. Avoid buying or trading with this man. He is a crook.
After my first complaint about this man I recieved many emails from other
people who had been ripped of by him. Thank you- Liesa

Complaint on message board
DO NOT TRADE with this crook Don DeSorbo trading under mail address
-sharpei.2@worldnet.att.net. After ordering 3 X Fuzz when they first came
out back in January & paying by credit card over the internet, he proceeeded
to charge me triple for each bear $75 instead of $25 each. Therefore he is
now in possession of an extra $75 of my money. He said that he'd refund,
but hasn't & will no longer reply to my mails. Barclaycard VISA have
been following the case but said that as I do not have a sales slip they
cannot proceed. IT is now in the hands of my solicitors !!!

I feel pretty stupid. today is the first day I knew of a traderlist.
and I sure wish I had known about it in early March. I'll give you a summary
of my story here .and then I hope you can help me....any help at all would
be greatly appreciated. I am very afraid that I am going to be OUT $93.50
in this learning experience! I used to be totally skeptical of internet
trading/sales etc. until I began purchasing beanie babies on eBay in January
1999. I never had a bad experience. On March 12th I received an email from
Don DeSorbo saying he had a great sale on beanies and had received my email
address from an extractor. At the time I was interested in getting some beanie
buddies for my kids for Easter and his prices seemed reasonable. So, on March
12th, Friday, late in the afternoon I called the "office" phone number Don
had listed in his email........704-642-1891. I gave my credit card information
and advised I was allowing him to bill it for $93.50 which was for Erin Buddy
($35), Bongo Buddy ($15), Patti Buddy ($15), Rover Buddy ($12) and Snort
Buddy ($12) and $4.50 for priority shipping. On Monday, March 15th, I sent
an email asking if my order had been received ok. On March 16th, Don responded
saying the order was received ok and would be mailed out that week. On April
7th I sent an email to Don stating that I hadn't received the buddies but
that the $93.50 charge was posted to my credit card on 3-15. Since it had
been 2 1/2 weeks I thought I should've received the buddies by this time.
On April 9th I received an email from Don stating he had been out of town
since 4-2 and just returned and that he hadn't received any Germanias yet
though he'd extended over $10,000 in payments for them and he was just as
anxious as I to receive them. (HELLO?! I didn't order Germania!) I responded
to him that if he was holding my buddy order because he was going to "throw
in" Germania with the deal I'd be happy to wait but otherwise I'd like to
get my buddies or my $93.50 back. I heard nothing. On April 27th (6 weeks
after ordering and paying) I sent another email toDon and requested that
he mail the buddies that day or refund my money. Don responded that the package
was shipped priority mail insured and he'd check on it first thing in the
morning. I have NEVER heard from him again. I sent another email in May advising
that I simply wanted my $93.50 returned as I had waited more than long enough
and it was obvious I would not be receiving my order. Yesterday, May 18th
(over 9 weeks since this nightmare began) I telephoned his "office" number
again ....... 704-642-1891. I got an answering machine, of course, and I
advised that I would like my $93.50 returned to me immediately and provided
my mailing address. I also advised that I thought it was a federal crime
(wire fraud) to do what he's done. I am going to be contacting authorities
I'd just like him to return my $93.50.............and for him to remain on
the bad trader list so maybe other people will not be scammed like this.
I hate to feel stupid for trusting.........I've had so many good experiences
on eBay..........however, this experience is enough to keep one from ever
doing internet business again!

I am sending another horror story regarding DON DeSORBO ( sharpei.2@att.net)
who I come to find out with the help from your site, is still continuing
his fradulent business.Mr.DeSorbo contacted me on Jan 8th after finding my
name on an e-bay bidding list with an offer to purchase all 23 Jan releases
including Germania for $525. After more e-mails from Mr.DeSorbo, I finally
agreed to send the money order which he did verify that he did receive on
Feb 25. He promised a March delivery which came and went and only replied
to my requests with promises that it had been sent and then the most recent
May 14th, that he was checking. I now know what an incredible risk this was
dealing with someone I had no suspicion of after his nicely worded responses.I
would sincerely appreciate any help in helping me retrieve anything from
this man. I am also ready to contact the Attorney General of South Carolina
and/or his local police dept for assistance. I would also glady welcome any
correspondence from any of his other victims.

My name is Terri Wedge and my address is 301 Court Street, Little Valley,
NY 14755, phone number (716) 938-9191 (my work address and phone number).
I was just looking at your bad trader list and to my horror, saw Don Desorbo,
email sharpei.2@worldnet.att.net on that list. I checked the complaints and
noticed that other people are having the same problem I am having with him.
It started on April 29 when he sent me an email saying he had all 15 of the
new beanies for sale. I chose only to get Osito which was $69.00. I sent
him an email stating my interest and that I would like to pay by credit card.
He sent me an email on April 30 giving me his phone number where I could
leave my credit card info (704-642-1891). I called and left the info the
next day and asked him to email me so that I knew he received the information.
He never did, so I emailed him on May 4 asking him if he received it. He
emailed me back on May 6 saying that he did indeed receive it. I checked
my next credit card statement and it was charged for the $69.00. By June
4, I had not heard from him so I emailed him asking him when I would receive
my Osito. He didn't answer, so I emailed him back on June 8 asking if he
received my first email of June 4 and when was I going to get my Osito. He
emailed me back on June 8 stating that he should have them in that week.
On July 1, I still hadn't received my Osito, so I emailed him again stating
that it had been 2 months since my credit card was credited and what was
the deal. I told him if he could not deliver, I wanted my credit card credited.
He emailed me back on July 2 stating that he's shipping daily and I should
get my Osito any day. On July 15 I still hadn't received my Osito, so I emailed
him again stating that if I did not receive it by July 30 that I wanted my
credit card credited. He emailed me back on July 19 stating that I should
receive it by July 30. Well it's July 30 and I DID NOT receive my Osito.
I emailed him stating that I wanted my credit card credited. That's when
I looked at the bad traders list (a day late and quite a few dollars short).
I guess I learned a valuable lesson here. Please let me know what I can do
or what you can do to help me out. I've done quite a bit of internet business
and this is the first time I have been had. If you need copies of the emails
that were traded between myself and Don Desorbo, please let me know and I
will forward them to you. Thank you for your time and attention in this matter
and any help you can give me will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! Terri Wedge

Information from: bobbie@world-net.net.
I know for sure that DeSorbo is dotcomtoys - I have copies of his emails
to me in his name telling me where to mail checks there is a detective in
RI that is looking for him - this info came from another scammed buyer -
I can find his email add. if you want it.(the det.)I even have a copy of
an email from DeSorbo giving me his phone no. so I could give him my credit
card info. Also Chase Visa issued me a credit on the one and only charge
I made to him - my Visa statement showed his name not dotcomtoys. All endorsed
checks of mine he cashed were endorsed by him but payable to dotcomtoys.
the dotcomtoy charge I phoned in was paid to Don De Sorbo, 704-636-7173 NC
this is what was shown on my visa and they charged it back to him and
issued me a cr.

I, too, am among the seemingly hundreds of people who have been scammed
by dotcomtoys (Ebay Auction #94930433--$55.00 + $7.20--48 innocent buyers
from this one auction, alone). It seems to become worse the more I look into
the situation--first, I was given the name, Joe Warner, now, the name Don
DeSorba has been emerging. Are these two individuals actually the same
person?--or, have we been cheated by two or more criminals working together?
I have lost count of the number of e-mails I have sent to dotcomtoys, first
to inquire about the status of the order, then to demand a refund of my
$62.20--all to no avail! I have placed a tracer on the money order I sent
to determine the name used to cash it. I understand a complaint has been
filed with the FBI, but am not aware of its current status. I work for attorneys
who have informed me that people who work under an umbrella such as "dotcomtoys"
will simply continue their fraudulent practices under different "company
names." So, until they are stopped, these people will continue to steal from
trusting , innocent people.
August 5, 1999
Cautionlist has no proof as yet that this is also don desorba. We are looking
into that and trying to get proof of this. We have never had complaint about
don with him using any address except the NC one.

Another name associated with dotcomtoys is Giuseppe Abatecola as seen on
the website that designed dotcomtoys webpage - dotcomtoys.net.
August 6, 1999
Cautionlist emailed Bobbie QUINN bobbie@world-net.net for more info
that don desorbo was the same person as dotcomtoys. I am now convinced that
they are one and the same. This is what Bobbie QUINN bobbie@world-net.net
sent to me.

I am forwarding a message I sent to DotComToys regarding a price break on shipping cost - even though I emailed dot.com.toys, the answer came from DeSorbo. Also, I charged on one of DotComToys auctions to my visa and the bill showed being paid to Don De Sorbo 704-636-7173 NC not DotComToys who was the seller. (the request I made was in reference to DotCom Kosove auctions -checks were sent to DotCom in Providence) - please keep me informed. Thanks, Bobbie Quinn

I was hoping you could help me. I've been scammed by two people (one
of which is listed on your bad traders list, but wasn't when I purchased).
The first one is Don DeSorbo (which is already on your list) at
sharpei.2@worldnet.att.net. I purchased the complete new set of January beanies
back on January 5th for $525 and received the commons on January 22nd, but
no Fuzz or Germania. After numerous e-mails to him I finally received a Fuzz
the end of June but NO GERMANIA. Now he doesn't even answer e-mails. What
do you suggest I do?????

The person I need help with I see has a long list of complaints on your
site. I thought I was alone until I viewed several auction sites and your
list of complaints only to find a large number of companions. Here is my story:
On 1/19/99 I received an email about a New Year's sale of beanies. I saw
a Libearty, $195, and a Lefty, 150, for sale. I wrote to the seller,
Sharpei.2@worldnet.att.net and asked if these were MWMT's. The reply on 1/23/99
said "yes they are very mint." It also stated that if I called 704-636-7173
I could charge these on my American Express. Sellers name given was Don DeSorbo.
1/28/99 I contacted Mr. DeSorbo with my credit card number. On 1/29/99 a
charge of $352 was put on my American Express. 2/6/99 The beanies had not
arrived so I emailed Mr. DeSorbo as to the arrival date. He then sent me
the UPS tracking number which I followed. On 2/10 the beanies arrived, Libearty
was anything but mint, the hang tag was bent and marred heavily on the edges,
the beanie had a bright yellow stain on the right shoulder and fur appeared
dingy. I didn't even take it out of the plastic bag. Lefty was acceptable.
I immediately emailed Mr. DeSorbo that Libearty was not in mint condition
as stated and that I would be returning it, I requested a refund of $195
be placed on my credit card. 2/11 I returned the Libearty via priority mail
to:
Mr. Don DeSorbo
South Bank Traders
228 S. Ellis Street
Salisbury, N.C. 28144-4816
On 2/11 I received an email apologizing for the Libearty and that "I would
be happy to do whatever you would like, Don" On 2/12 I wrote"Do you have
another Libearty in excellent shape? If so you could send me a replacement
of i not credit my American Express card for $195? On 2/21 I received email:
"I am waiting on 3 new Libs to arrive and I will then replace yours, Thanks,
Don. On 3/10/99 I wrote "Any update on the status of libearty? No response
received. 5/7/99 & 5/10/99 I called 704-636-7173 twice and left messages
with no response. Family member stated Mr. DeSorbo would be home in 2 days
and would call, I left my phone number.5/10/99 I wrote requesting immediate
response and refund of my money. 5/11/99 received email: "Thank you for your
patience and yes I travel .I will process this credit for you upon my arrival
home on Thursday. Thanks, Don". 5/27/99 I wrote "I am writing to inquire
if my credit was posted to my American Express?" No Response 6/6/99
I wrote "..no response from you since 5/11....I am expecting a valid and
action related response from yo immediately.. No Response 6/10/99 I telephoned
and left message No Response. 6/10/99 I called American Express and filed
a complaint against Mr. DeSorbo. 6/21/99 I called and was able to speak with
"Mrs." DeSorbo. I requested a money order or a cashier's check with in 7
days. She took my name and address and stated that would be done. No refund
received. 7/14/99 I called and spoke with "John" He stated Mr. DeSorbo was
out and would be back in 2 hours and would call me. I left my work number.
No Response. 7/15/99 I called and spoke with "wife". She stated he had my
name and number and he would call. No Response. 8/14/99 I discovered the
seller has complaints on Ebay, Up4Sale Auction, and Bad Trader List. Complaint

Mr Don Desorbo took me for $484 dollars last year. I know how to get money
back from him as I got mine and $12,000 he took from a Florida dealer. I
am 6' 6" and 275 lbs. I just visited his little quaint home town and called
him when I saw him arrive at home. He resolved both matters, mine immediately.
Then 6 months later in a trade deal I was contacted by the guy in florida,
I just called Don with my usual southern boy threat. He immediately sent
the refund to the guy. Need help with Don, let me know.

It seems like there are hundreds of us who have been taken by this dishonest
man. I too am still waiting since Jan. 99 for my Germania and Fuzz which
has not been received to date. Many emails and excuses have been put forth
but no beanies. He has my money since Jan.'99 and has now stopped answering
my inquiries. He MUST be stopped, he is a criminal. I have given up hoping
that he will make good on his promises of sending them when received but
after reviewing complaints from others, I see they too are waiting for the
same two beanies. This person sure makes it difficult to trust and internet
buying and selling is here to stay. We just have to be so careful. I wish
I had known about this list before. Thanks for all you do for us unsuspecting
honest buyers/seller. Georgia in Maryland
