I am hosting a swap on the The Giving Tree Talk board. On August 30th, I sent an email to all the interested participants and gave them the rules of the swap. The rules stated that swap started on Sept 14th, and the first package MUST go out by the 20th. On the 14th, I received this correspondence:
Subj: Re: SWAP TIME!
Date: 9/14/03 1:37:13 AM Eastern Daylight Time
From: MDREDE3
To: Heyma55
"the girls will be getting their swaps out this thursday"
This was the last direct correspondence I got from this gal. She did acknowledge that her children received packages in the swap: THANK YOU ANGELICA'S SECRET PAL!! THANKS YOU BRITTANY'S SECRET PAL!!!! , but this was the last anyone heard from her.
By the time she posted her thank yous, the other moms that Erika (MDREDE3) was assigned to were starting to ask where their kids' packages were. I tried to contact Erika numerous times. I sent a warning to both her and another mom who was late mailing her package. The other mom responded, Erika did not. In the meantime, the mom assigned to Erika's daughter Brittany sent out another package to her. I then emailed Erika again and demanded that she respond or her kids would be removed from the swap. She didn't even open the email. On Friday evening, I emailed Erika and informed her that her children were removed from the swap because she didn't adhere to the guidelines and had not sent anything to her pals. I asked her to return the package that had just been sent when it arrives, but to date she hasn't opened the email. I personally find it reprehensible that someone would take from others and not send back her end, especially when children are involved. There were other complaints against this gal involving others as well. I have asked them to send you the details of their transactions gone bad. I hope you can help, but I think this gal is probably already using another screen name and isn't going to return to the MDREDE3 one.
This is a copy of the email I sent out to everyone with the rules on it:
Thank you all for your interest in the kids secret pal swap. I will
take this opportunity to fill you in on all the details, and then leave each
of you with the final decision of whether or not to participate.
How it works: Each of you must submit a wishlist for each child you are entering.
If you are entering more than one child, please send each wishlist in a separate
email. Wishlists should include the following:
CHILDS NAME
ADDRESS
CHILDS AGE
BIRTHDAY
GRADE IN SCHOOL (if applicable)
And then finish the wishlist with your childs clothing sizes, likes, interests, etc.
EXAMPLE: My child loves Spongebob, Hotwheels, and playing in the dirt. He likes to watch Digimon videos and he collects anything Pokemon. He wears a size 4T shirt, 3T pants, and size 8 shoes/socks. Its very cold where we live, and mittens are always a need. Like most children his age, he likes McDonalds and Pizza Hut. PLEASE, no sweets or Playdoh. Thanks!
Please include YOUR screen name so that I can keep track of which child belongs to which parent/grandparent. After all wishlists have been received, I will match each child with a secret pal. NOTE: This is a SECRET pal swap. I will reveal who your child's pal was on the board and via email on Oct. 13th.
Sending rules: The swap will start on September 14th, and will end on October 12thColumbus Day.
1. You are REQUIRED to send a minimum of one mailing per week, but can
send more if you wish. ALL packages will use my return address. That way
if something gets returned for whatever reason, I can let the intended recipient
know that it has been returned and I will re-send it.
2. Secret pal mailings should be at least a small padded envelope. The final
package of the swap should be something very special for your swap pal. It
doesnt have to be expensive, but at least make it something that your
pal will remember and enjoy.
3. You must email me and let me know what you are sending as you mail each
package.
4. Please try to get ideas for pal packages from the childs wishlist.
Clothing items can be gently used, but I encourage all of you to refrain
from sending used toys, pencils, etc. Please put a little effort into making
this a fun and memorable swap, not only for your child, but also for the
child you are sending to.
5. You must post to the Giving Tree Talk board and thank your pal when you
receive each package. A simple "Thanks _____ Pal" should be in the subject
line. Pals want to know that you received your gifts and are appreciative,
so please make sure you post every time you receive something.
If you have an alternate email address that you would like to use to send your childs pal an e-card, that is definitely encouraged. Keep in mind that these are children were swapping with. We want them to have fun and enjoy this swap. If your child's pal has a birthday during the swap, please acknowledge that in some way, even if it's only an e-card sent to the child. Many of the little ones look forward to getting mail, and this swap will be a great way to give them some fun mail of their own!
Now the not so fun stuff: Anyone who does not send to their pal by the
end of the first week will be removed from the swap. Anyone who does not
send their required one package a week will be removed from the swapno
excuses. If you decide to enter this swap, you are agreeing to commit to
this swap for the duration. If you have doubts that you can meet the
requirements, please dont enter. It isnt fair to your childs
pal if everyone else is receiving packages and he isnt. I have personally
witnessed the disappointment in a young child who packages up a box and mails
them out week after week, only to receive nothing in return. Ask yourself
how you would feel if that was YOUR child who was being slighted. Its
not a nice thing to watch a young child cry in disappointment, and its
even worse to be the person whos causing those tears. Please give this
serious thought before agreeing to enter.
NOW, if you are still interested in participating in the swap, please get
your childs wishlist ready. If you have decided not to participate,
please drop me a line and let me know. No hard feelings. I just dont
want someone to enter and then slack off a week or two into the swap. When
this works like it should, the kids have a blast! Thanks
again!

I was told to contct you about Erika and her "bad trading" I won a drawing
from her on the giving tree. It was for a school supply box for my nephew.
I never got it. She said she would mail a WalMart GC and that also never
arrived. When I contacted her she said she was going to overnight one to
make up for it ...Of course that never showed up either. I am not out any
money but she surely didn't follow through. Thanks Jaime

Hello. I hear you are taking complaints about Erica Roldan. Erica's daughter
Angelica was my daughter's secret pal. She did receive a package from me
for her daughter and according to Liz did not send her end out. She also
offered a cd to the board as a drawing and I entered it. I didn't win but
she emailed me and some others and said if we would send her shipping she
would make us one. So, I did. 8 weeks later, after hearing her say she sent
them......she sent another set.......she sent our money back......we filled
a complaint with a Missi person I didn't know. After Missi intervened we
did eventually get our cd's. She does seem to send stuff out but she has
to be the most unluckiest person on earth or the post office has it out for
her. I don't know which one. She seems to have an overwhelming amount of
packages get "lost", So here's the story for what it's worth. I think she's
scamming people but she can't be getting much I don't think. It's the principal
though I guess. Thanks. Missy Pizzino

i have been unable to access my e-mail due to technical issues w/ my cable
access, i want an explanation for this e-mail that i have received from you,
who are these "many" complaints coming from, and what are the alligations
that i am having thrown @ me?? i have resolved issues that were falsly made,
and want to get to the bottom of this newest group of alligations.i have
contacted the person running the swap, and have notified her. if she doesn't
feel that i have reached an amicable agreement with her, then she needs to
contact me personally, so that we can get this straight, and not involve
a person that i do not know and have never had contact with.

She contacted me last night with a bunch of snotty excuses. I will forward her emails to you. She said she had personal problems that she didn't intend on discussing with me. When I asked her to return the packages that her kids got, she insisted that she sent "an envelope" to her kids' swap partners (she most certainly did NOT--to date they've not received a thing from her). She has been removed from the swap and was told not to enter anymore. She doesn't intend on making good. See below:
Let me comment by saying that NO, she did NOT send out packages to her swap pals. You have permission to contact PRINCESSPAMELA@aol.com and BEESTACIE1@aol.com to ask them if they received a package from her. I guarantee they will say "NO". (I personally sent the first package to BEESTACIE's son last week!) She did not contact me nor did she try to work things out. She just kept what her kids were sent and left it at that. She claims that she has no access to AOL, but she emailed me 4 times last night and is emailing you tonight. Something doesn't add up.....

i apologize for the delay in my response, i sent out the 1st package
to the girls partners a few days late, but they did go out, i have not sent
out the latest mailings, due to issues that i do not wish to discuss w/ anyone
@ this point, and i understand you taking my children out of the swap, i
have no control over the issues that have kept us from fufilling our end
of this deal, and do not expect anyone on this board to understand that.
i will be away from my e-mail access for a while, not sure how long, and
will respond to any and all comments as soon as i can.

OK, again, I had contact w/ heyma55 last night, and have explained to
her my situation to the extent that I feel needs to be explained to people
that I do not know. And again, if she is not satisfied with the results of
our conversations, SHE needs to contact me again, to see what it is that
SHE feels I need to do from this point to rectify this situation

This is the gal who took packages from the kids' swap and never sent anything in return. I have since found out that she took money from PROUDOFMYBOY2000 for a CD and never sent the CD. She took a package from CAMPWAY25 and promised to send a package in return (this was a private swap between their children). Of course, she never sent her end of the trade. In addition, she took $20 cash from JaNeSays, claiming that she couldn't afford to buy toys for her son (she doesn't have a son).
Yesterday, MDREDE3 started sending nasty emails to me and several others that she scammed. She was insulting and hinted that she was going to change her screen name and use a relative's name and address when she returns under her new screen name. She also posted to several of the message boards on AOL.
Previously, she claimed that she had no access to AOL, and that's why she didn't follow through with the kids' swap. (But she had AOL yesterday to email and post to the boards.) She told one of the swap moms that she didn't follow through because she "pitied her kids for getting packages from people they didn't know". If that were the case, she should have sent them back instead of keeping them.
I hope you can warn everyone about this gal. She's a real slimy one.

She posted she wished she has something to give her "little man" (her
son). So I said I send her a check, she said she didn't have an account,
so give it to someone else. So I sent cash, $20. She never thanked me so
I asked her if she got it. She said she was wondering if I had sent it, because
she didn't get it. I almost sent her more. I was told later that she didn't
have a son. Anne

Erica posted back in August saying she would like someone to exchange packages with her daughter. I sent a package that cost me $20.00 shipping included the package included a Barbie doll, another little doll, a pony, a pair of sunglasses, some stickers, and a little feather thing to wear around her neck. Also I sent her $7.00 cash for her to make me 3 Cd's two were to be kids and the other one was songs of my choice. She also posted a drawing and said she would make everyone that enter an angel. I have never received anything from her. I am also going to send you an email that she sent to me yesterday saying that she was going to send me the money back. Thank You, Waynette

you know something waynette, you are the only person that has been rational
about this, and i really wish i felt comfortable enough to explain what i
have gone thru, but i can't, it will just get spread all over the board to
all the GT members, get cut and pasted as they see fit, i just found out
that the apology that i sent out to my swap partners was never delivered,
how convenient is that??? soo.... i will send you the money back as soon
as possible, i can not, at this time, go and do the shopping for these items,
and i no longer have my burner, but, i will get your money back to you as
soon as is possible, and yes, this might be a couple of weeks, but it will
be done. again, i wish you could see what i am going thru now, but i will
not explain to anyone that will more than likely just send it all over the
board anyway

Sometime in the beginning of Aug maybe end of July she offered to make
Cds for kids. I bit and asked her to make me 2 of them for my son. She seemed
very nice, offered to put my son's pic on the cover and everything. At first
she wanted $3 for them. Then for some reason she came on the board and said
she misquoted shipping and changed her price to $1 each. Insisted on cash.
I was behind sending the cash and we kept in consistent contact about it.
She told me the CDs were finished and she was just waiting for the shipping.
I sent her the shipping, she wrote me saying that she got it. Then emails
stopped. I waited for the CDs and never recieved them. I wrote her and she
said she'd get them out that week. Still nothing so I wrote her 3-4 more
times which were read but not answered. Finally she wrote me saying things
were hetic and her CD burner quit on her. She promised to send the shipping
money back. I still waited, nothing. I wrote the message on GTT and she wrote
me back snotty letters saying that she will send it to me DC so she can post
it somewhere that I did recieve it. I said that was fine but she wasn't getting
more money from me. I'm waiting now to see if I will ever recieve my shipping
back. $2 isn't much but still.
