March 12, Update from Pat,
I just spoke with Detective Dehart of the Colorado Police Department.
He said that if you are a victim of Tom Reed...you must file your complaint
with the FBI at www.ifccfbi.gov
immediately. You can submit the form online. It is important that this
be done because unless the FBI get enough complaints, they won't take the
case. Detective Dehart feels that if everyone who was scammed by ..Tom
Reed..files the report with the IFCC, there will be enough evidence for the
FBI to begin their investigation.

I'm not sure what to do about this trade. I have received my cancelled check from the vendor Collectibles2002@aol.com, ebay user ID treed7. Many of us who have bid on these auctions have not heard back from this vendor. The auction ended on 1-12-01. The items were promised on a pre-sell within 30 days. I have not yet received the merchandise, or a refund. Since there has been no communication from the vendor, I was wondering what the proper procedure for filing a bad trade report would be?
The vendor's mailing information is:

He ripped me off for $19. so I lost out. Collectables2002 has been kicked off eBay from what it seems. I lost money with him along with other bidders (It was a Dutch Auction. I have been contact by the seller only once. He wont reply and He does not answer the phone number he posted on his invoice. PLease be very careful with this person. I only lost $19.00 but others lost more. Its a shame that you put your trust in people with high ratings and then they get greedy. To those of you who think you are getting away with it, think again.from Traders List will find a way for people who have been ripped off for alot of money to get you and get you good. And....to those like me who are ever so trusting. Keep the faith, only one in every hundred are bad. It just seems I get the bad ones, LOL!! Take care everyone and good luck
Here is some information that i got.
Subject: VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION TREED7 AUCTIONS
Hi Everyone. First of all, I send these messages to a total of 69 people, and I have heard back from 1/6 %. VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION....
I have spoken to quite a few people outside of the computer world and through the USPS I discovered the Internet Fraud Complaint Center. It is partially run by the FBI! They have a form you can go and fill out. The form took me rougly 10 minutes to fill out. It is VERY involved. But this big news. They can help us.
http://www.ifccfbi.gov/
If all 69 of us filed with all our information we stand a strong chance of getting our money back, and teaching people they cannot rip people off! With so few of you responding to the mails with your information I am discouraged greatly. I have developed a website with information and links. Please visit the site and bookmark it and check it for updates.
http://www.geocities.com/ivebeenrippedoff/
I know there are people on this mailing list who still believe they will
get their beanies. It is highly possible you will and we all will... but
it has been 47 days and the clock is ticking on how long you have to file
claims. 17 days over the limit of his 30 day auction. I was patient, I believed
in him too, but this has gone beyond. I just want to beg you all to
PLEASE stand up and be counted. We need to band together! Information and
links are on the website.

I thought the best way to let you know of my dealings with this crook is to send a copy of the claim I filed with SquareTrade that did not do any good because he is no longer a registered eBay user...silly rule...how do they expect to settle anything if they don't let him respond. I also filed a fraud claim with eBay and insurance through Lloyds of London and also a claim with PayPal for reimbursement, don't know if any of these claims will get be anything, but worth a try...I don't want to be out $28.00 and I am sure none of the other buyers from this character want to be either. Please respond and if there is anything further I can do, please let me know. Nancy Erhardt nanbob@netins.net
Case Number: 1857352953
eBay Item Number: 538178955&538178950
Case filed on: Saturday, February 17, 2001
Filer: Nancy Erhardt <nanbob@netins.net>
buyer (eBay User ID: 2nan)
Respondent: collectibles 2002 <collectibles2002@aol.com>
seller (eBay User ID: unknown)
Description of Goods: Four Beanies: Shamrock, Eggs and 2 Smooch bears.
Case Issues: Problem:
I sent my payment but did not receive my merchandise.
Nancy's Request(s): I would be satisfied if the merchandise could be
shipped to me as soon as possible. I would be willing to accept a full refund.
Nancy Erhardt's further details on reported problems:
I have sent several emails with no response, except a form letter he sent to all his auction winners. I even called him long distance and left a message to call me, but he did not. This was a Dutch auction and I have been in contact with the other winners and they too are having the same problem. He has been suspended from eBay. I tried to file a claim, but ebay does not cover anything under $25.00, but PayPal says it will cover what ebay doesn't, so I would like to file a claim.
Nancy Erhardt's further details on requested solutions:
I paid by PayPal so if the seller would like to put the amount (27.52)
back into my account instead of sending a check or money order I would accept
this if he does not come through with the beanies I won.

I am in a quandary as how to proceed because I have never had a problem with

know where to begin. If you have any suggestions please advise me. Thanks

I can tell you that it seems that Tom Reed has sent alot of people on
a wild goose chase over the past 50 days. He had a auction on e-bay for several
new beanie baby's and none of us have received any of them although we have
already payed him. I was one of the people who payed him through paypal right
after I learned I won the auction. I have tried to e-mail this guy but he
never responds. He has mislead a lot of people over the past two months.
It seem to me he has made a lot of money from people who have alredy payed
him with nithing in return. I don't know what else to say about this guy,
but he seems to be a con-artist and a cheat. Daniel C. Bowling

Hi Everyone. I just got off the phone with Detective Dehart of Colorado.
He has our best interest at heart. He wants to persue this and feels that
since so many states are involved that the FBI should be contacted. However....
He said that in order to do this, we need more people to file with the Internet
Fraud Complaint Center. (Link available on my website) If you have
not filed with them yet, please do so ASAP and tell anyone else you know
who was a high bidder to do so.
His concern is the dollar total of claims so far, it is still not as high
as it should be to get the FBI involved.... Mr Reeds auctions total over
25000.00 but if the complaints only total a few hundred it won't be worth
their man hours. So I ask for your support in this and I want you all to
know we do have someone on our side!

have yet to receive any bears or any refund. Seveal others have mailed me
that they, too, have yet to receive the bears or refund, as this was a dutch
auction. He has sent 2 generic letters saying we will get our merchandise,
that 500 were mailed. But no one I am aware of has received anything. In
fact, he now is not answering any of my e-mails. I am filing internet fraud

I have my received cancelled check, but no beanies. I'm out $34.00. I know

if more complaints are listed, this person will no longer be able to conduct
bad trades. If I receive my beanies or refund, I will update this complaint.

CA; phone number 209-546-0230. She said "the name Tom Reed doesn't match
what is on the account" and she could not give out any address or personal
information about this account. She also told me that since the name on the
signature line Collectibles 2002 doesn't match the name at the bank, this
check isn't worth the paper it is written on. Please keep me informed
about this situation. Thank you CWdodson

I won two of his auctions of ebay, auction#538127868 (7 new Ty Beanie
Babies) and auction#538127871 (eggs and smooch). The auction ended on 01/09/01
and the seller promised to deliver 30 days after auction ended (02/09/01).
I paid via paypal in the amount of $136.50 but have not received either a
refund or the products. The seller had positive feedbacks 193 at that time
(who knows). I did aware that he had a lot of presale beanies auctions at
that time but I thought he was Ty authorized dealer. I sent him email and
call him several time. He did respond to my email. His excuse was he was
busy shipping the beanies but I got several email from other people asking
if I have received the beanies.

This is all the information I have about the bank account. I am not going
to cash the check, because it would only cost me more in the long run. I
guess I was actually taken again. If you can figure this out then great.
I just don't have any more answers. As I stated before, the bank would not
give me any more information because I am not on the account. Call your own
bank and see what they tell you in these circumstances. Isn't this part of
the investigation your are conducting? People not getting their items, no
returns, now you can add a check that isn't any good. I don't know what else
to tell you. CWDodson

All auctions for beanies that I had up for sale were presells. In each item description it stated that I would deliver within 30 days. If you were not paying attention like you should of then I am sorry you did not read it like it is suppose to be read. If you already know that then thank you for making my life a little easier. Either way it was a presell and I will deliver with in the 30 days as planned. So please dont worry! If you have been receiving emails from the circus thats going around with false rumors then I am sorry you had to be a part of it. I have no idea why they are doing this, I have never done anything to them to make them do this. I dont even know who they are. If you can please be so kind as to forward the emails to me that you received I would really appreciate it. And it will be confidential. I wont let anyone know who told me. As for me being suspended there is nothing to worry about. I did not see that comming. I am still trying to find out the true reason as to why I have been suspended. Each time I ask they tell me different reasons. But my suspension does not affect my ability to send out the items won and paid for. So please dont worry. I intend to deliver each and every item I have been paid for. If you remember sending payment WITHOUT BOTH item number(s) AND an email address then please contact me and let me know. This will effect shipping. I need to know which bidder in dutch auctions to mark as paid. (if you sent a copy of the auction helper invoice everything is fine!) Please only email me if you have to! I receive too many emails and dont have too much time to answer all of them as fast as I would like to. So please only email if you have to. Thank you for your understanding!

I do not have the time to answer each and every email since I receive so many everyday. If I took the time to answer each one then I would never have the time to send anything out. So all I can do is let you know what is going on. I have sent out all most all beanies. Most people are being refunded. I have about 25% left to do and thats it. So dont worry, you will get either your money or your beanies back by next week. IF you do an eBay fraud report and you receive either your beanies or refund I EXPECT you to go and get that taken off SINCE I can not respond to anything because I am not a registered user and they wont let me respond. IF you complain to PayPal I expect you to let them know when you receive your beanies or refund OR I will. Or if you complained to anyone you are to respond to them and tell then when you received beanies or refund. BUT there are about 12 people who DID NOT follow directions when sending payment and I need to be contacted by these people ASAP so I can send them either their money order the items(s) they won. Please look below to see if you are one of them.

Today I received 2/3 of the beanie bears that I won in an auction in January
from Mr. Reed. I paid $24.11+ $6.00 shipping for the dutch auction of Smooch,
Eggs, and Shamrock. The package I received today had Shamrock and Eggs and
a note that simply said, "Refund for Smooch on the way!". I am somewhat pleased
that I have a partial product, but still believe he should owe me about $10
for the Smooch--MetaExchange has both Eggs and Shamrock selling for about
$8 and he paid $3.96 to send them to me. Maybe he will come through with
refunds and bears after all.

I sent this person $86.50 through Paypal on 1/14/01. He had been suspended
from E-bay but he wrote to me and told me it was because some kind of rule
about having too many items listed that he was not aware of, and he assured
me I would receive my beanies if I sent him money. I received a couple other
e-mails from him, after I never received anything, stating he was busy and
to let him alone so he could get the packages out. Now my e-mails are being
returned to me as unavailable. I am going to pursue this matter with the
Colorado Springs DA Office (1-719-520-6000) and the Colorado Springs Police
Dept. (1-719-444-7564). I received this info from someone's posting on
traderlist.com. I urge everyone to file complaints about this man, no matter
how small the claim. This man has been very clever and he is very cocky.
He needs to be shown we are not going to let him steal from us. I have never
had to deal with anyone like this before. I have learned a lesson, I will
be MORE careful from here on in!! Thank you. Julie

I too was ripped off by Tom Reed. I paid for 2 sets of the new 7 beanie
babies on ebay in a dutch auction and never received them or a refund. The
item #539543075 closed on Jan-12-01 and each set sold for $42.53. I am now
out $95.06 which includes the S/H and have been unable to send an email to
him due to his email box being full(what a surprise, hah). I have filled out
the National Fraud Information Center online report form and have been kept
up to date at the following website: www.geocities.com/ivebeenrippedoff/
I would like to personally thank the person who started the site. This is
the second time I have been ripped off by people who claim to be selling
beanie babies, the first is the infamous RICK PERRIS:( another sore subject.
I am not a collector. I have been buying these beanies for my 4 daughters
and for these people to just rip us off really upsets me. I will help in
any way I can. I have the cancelled check and the invoice from auctionhelper
with his address on it and now have his phone number. I just may give him
a call tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for the support. Lets show him
he can't rip people off and get away with it!

UPDATE TO COMPLAINT ON MARCH 9th, 2001: I received 6 of my 7 beanies on
3/30/01. On the missing beanie, Smooch, I received a post-it note stating:
"Refund for Smooch on the way!". The interesting thing was although the return
label had:
PO Box 63025

The box was actually mailed from Stockton, California. I notified both Ebay, Paypal & ifccfbi reports with this information.

On January 10, 2001 I won a dutch auction for 7 new beanie babies. Ebay Item# 538893104. At the time I won the auction he was in good standing with ebay and right after he was suspended from ebay and I received an email stating he was suspended because of profanity that he didn't do and that I would receive my beanies he also gave the address to send my payment to. I sent my payment out on 1/19/2001 and he received my payment sortly after that and cashed it on 1/30/2001. I have sent several emails to him asking the status of my beanies and he sent me email back telling me to leave him alone and that I would receive my beanies soon. The last email I received was on 2/20/2001 stating he needed addresses from several people and that over 500 sets of beanies have been shipped. As of today 2/15/2001 I have not received my money back or my beanies. I have two address for this person they are: Collectibles2002
P.O. Box 63025
Colorado Springs, CO 80962
and
Thomas J. Reed
3810 Sedgewood Way
Colorado Springs, CO 80915
I have filed a complaint with the IFCC and hope that everyone else that
have won auctions from this person will file complaints so he will get what
is coming to him.

Won 2 sets of 3 beanie bears (AOL auction 539543080) in January. Lots
of emails (which he stopped answering) and empty promises later, I've filed
an IFCC complaint with the FBI (complaint number I01062815364669).

Not a complaint--After several months, Mr. Reed made good on his promise
to refund my money from an eBay auction in January. It is nice to know that
he is making restitution for these unfilled purchases. I hope other get their
refunds, too.
